George A. Garcia “Gunny” was born and raised in Grants, NM. He attended Grants/Cibola County schools and graduated from Grants High School class of 78. He immediately enlisted in the US Marine Corps at the age of 17. George was assigned MOS of Aviation Ordnance Technician. Some of his responsibilities included:
- Production/Maintenance Control supervisor Shipping/Receiving manager
- Quality Assurance Inspector
- Marine Corps Senior Drill Instructor
- Operations director
- Administrative Coordinator
- Naval Instructor/Curriculum Development Nuclear Weapons Security Officer
During his enlistment he further developed a multicultural appreciation, due to being stationed at multiple of bases throughout the United States and Far Eastern countries. He graduated from the University of Marine Corps Advanced Management & Leadership course in Quantico, Va. Due to military draw down; he retired from the Marine Corps in 1999 at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and returned home to Grants, NM. George attended NMSU‐Grants branch and received an Associate of Science – Computer Technology
George immediately began working as General Manager of Cibola Internet Services until the fall of 2001. The morning of September 11, 2001 he started his new position as the Grants High School Marine Corps JROTC instructor. During the 19 year period at GHS his drill/color guard teams were responsible for 9 state NMAA drill championships and 2 national drill championships 2005 & 2016. He was responsible for managing the 2 military budgets and 2 school budgets. He retired from the Grants/Cibola County school district June 2000.
He is married to Victoria (Martinez) also a 78 GHS graduate former Avon Rep & GCCS substitute teacher.
